Merry Christmas Advent…ure (December 13)

Oh, my love, we’ve had our share of tears
Oh, my friends, we’ve had our hopes and fears
Oh, my friends, it’s been a long hard year

But now it’s Christmas
Yes, it’s Christmas
Thank God it’s Christmas

There are Christmas classics.

There is Christmas rock.

Time for Christmas classic rock! (#THANKYOUSTLOUISGOODNIGHT)

The Little Drummer Boy (Bob Seager Version)

Growing up in St. Louis means, Cardinals, The Arch, and KSHE 95! I can’t even type that without hearing that KSHE voice in my head. Jammin’Jerry a.k.a. Papa Jerry had a wonderful eclectic musical taste which helped grow both of his boy’s love of music. That being said those records probably covered about 90% of the KSHE Memorial Day 500.

So song 25 is from one of my classic rock favorites. While I could have gone with Springstiens Santa Clause Coming to Town here, I chose Seager as his live Silver Bullet Band double album takes me back to our house on “K’bibbonn”. Young dad Jerry would lay on the living room floor. Airline pilot-size earphones plugged into the stereo with that bungee-jumping-strength rubber coil cord. Impossible to truly remember but I think I thought “Dad must really love this music”.

ThisDad with his little earbuds, laying on the couch, trying to finish a podcast, realizes that back then, like me today with my girls, Young dad Jerry probably needed “JUST FIVE $%$#^% MINUTES” where his boys weren’t jumping on him like a jungle gym at the park. : )

Or at least it was 51/49 need a break/enjoy the music.

Aside from the memories I will say that the swanky saxophone in this version is either my favorite instrument part in all of the songs, or quite possibly my absolute least favorite. I change my mind every listen

Thank God It’s Christmas by Queen

Queen is actually one of the rare bands of that time that was not well represented in the record collection. When Wayne & Garth rocked out to Bohemian Rhapsody I rocked out with them. But it was not until later in life that I really came to appreciate and just love this band.

Queen’s performance at Live Aid in 1985 is legendary.

Queens Live at Wembley Stadium in 1986 is one of the best live rock albums ever.

So they make song 26 on the list.

Thanks for reading. See you tomorrow.
