“Ball”, “Baby”, “Puppie”, “BaBa” (aka “Bottle”) are just a few of the words Kate has incorporated in to her 62 week on earth vocabulary.  All fun, especially her soft voice drawn out “Bay-Bee” when she see other kids.

Nothing in her growing Grey matter dictionary is better than her lip-finger-flip “Bibblls”!

Remember those. The ol’ finger over the mouth, up and down bibbll, bibbll, hilarity.

Day Dream Tax

Money has never made man happy, nor will it, there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants.
-Benjamin Franklin

Nine days into 2016 and I am only a few hours and 0.000000003% away from $558,000,000 million. Whoda thunk it.

Lottery tickets not necessarily a blog topic that was one at the top of my list, but in my lifetime there have been a few ginormous jackpots that move the cultural needle and spark the ubiquitous “What would you do if you won _____”? conversations.

These conversations often include big trips to exotic beaches, blazing speeds in finely engineered vehicles, and of course the obligatory ranking of whom exactly in ones life is the cutoff line for getting a new house. **$558,000,000 and even third cousins are getting virtual homes from imaginary benefactors all over powerball land**

What would I do with that money?  Read More

Have to Get a new perspective…

“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
― Abraham Lincoln  (click to tweet)

First off need to give credit where credit is due: Inspiration for this post came from another blogger James Clear.  Specifically this post on his blog. My suggestion is to subscribe to his blog or email newsletter. If not my favorite blog, definitely one of my top 3.

Take away from the post is you can change your life by changing your perspective. Changing your perspective starts with changing just one word: “Get”

You don’t “have “to. You “get to- James Clear

Kate's Serious Face

I have found the best way to give advice to your children is to find out what they want and then advise them to do it.

Kate's Serious Face

How long since you blogged? Bad daddy.

**NOTE** Dad always makes time for you kate. it is his blog dedicated to you that has been orphaned for months

The picture for this post is Kate’s reaction to dad telling her he hadn’t blogged in months. That is her “Are you Kidding me”? face.

Wish I was kidding little one, but dad has dropped the ball. Really dad has fallen into the trap so many of us do in this thing called life. The trap of confusing not having time for not making time

Having Time VS. making Time? There is a difference. There is a huge difference. Read More

Baby Germs = SWMFD

Baby Germs = SWMFD

“Snotty Weapons Mutual Family Downtime”

How often does a movie come out where we see the computer generated germs dance from person to person. Foretelling the movie hospital beds stacked to capacity, and the hero self injecting the anti-virus in the final act to save the day.

The real script for these Hollywood scare fests should be the following: Read More

Getting Old, Feeling Young

Learning that blogs are like the friends you think of two times a month, but call once every two years. Good intentions are great, but actions matter. – Sean Wiegert

Turned thirty-nine this past Wednesday. For just a bit that afternoon that feeling of “Whoa is me, I am getting older”. (Cry me a river.) “Life is passing me by..”.(Boo-Hoo). My knees hurt. Well, honestly that one is true and definitely no fun.

The first two sentiments were more to do with the fact that fifty-two weeks from today I am forty. 52 quick weeks. That wore heavily on my mind until I had a moment of clarity. Getting old is not “crazy”. It is wonderful. Read More

Life Goes By So Fast…(Part One)

Looking Back

“They say I’m old-fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast!”
― Dr. Seuss

“Life goes by so fast.”, “Where does the time go?” “Next thing you know Kate will be headed to college.” etc., etc., etc…

Of all the advice offered to new parents, and this new dad, the most consistent refrain is to “enjoy every moment, because it all goes by so fast”. Friends, family, co-workers, even passers-by at the mall will echo this theme. The words might change a little, but the sentiment is the same.

This theme comes up so often that there are days where I expect at any moment a super nostalgic flash mob is going to appear belting out a rendition of Sunrise/Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof.

Sure the chorus of these reminders trends towards the cliché’. In my opinion, kids or not, once you cross 35, you can’t help but wonder “Where did the time go” on a daily basis.  Cliché’ or not there is a powerful and humbling truth conveyed in this simple set of words.
