Song 27 is just an all-time beautiful song. Probably could have just used Joni Mitchell’s original, but I really enjoy this version as well. A great reflective slowdown from the previous few tunes on the list.
I’ll Be Home for Christmas (John Gary Version)
Been tinkering with this Christmas playlist for years. Solicited some of my closest orbit family and friends for suggestions over the years. Papa Jerry said a few years back this version of this long-time Christmas classic was his favorite. When I mentioned this project to him I asked why. Below is my guest author’s response for song 28 on the list:
My favorite Christmas song is “I’ll be home for Christmas “. Sung by John Gary. I just love his version and his voice. It’s what I grew up with. But the main reason it means so much to me is I remember talking to my Mom, Grandma Kate, about how much that song touched her generation. It made me think about all the guys in uniform and the sacrifices they made. The sacrifices those at home made. How lucky I was not to have to spend Christmas in a foxhole away from the people I love.

In all my 47 years the “only in my dreams” line never moved me as much as after I read this from my dad. Amazing song. Amazing sentiment.
